Boon Lay Community Club
I have been living in Boon Lay area for a very long time , this Boon Lay CC is one of the places that also holds parts of my memories living in this place.
This building is really very old , actually ! It is towards the recent 2 or 3 years that this building took off and entered into a new phrase of upgrade.
This year in the year of 2011, the upgrade of this old community building is finally completed.
July 30th Saturday Afternoon
On July the 30th which on a Saturday somewhere in the afternoon, I have decided to take my camera down , go take some photos and take a good look at how it is like after the upgrade as comparing to how it was before.
After my trip I can conclude that there is not much a big change ! Most of the things still remains with just some small changes only.
Noticeboard Photo of Upgrade
You may want to take a look at the photo from the noticeboard of the Boon Lay shopping center regarding this Boon Lay CC upgrade and take it look at the CC now which is already upgraded.
Real Changes are Only
Most likely the real changes which is very obvious would that there are now lifts , the location of the general office has also been repositioned, there is a Pizza hut now in Boon Lay CC which was something that Boon Lay CC never had in the past and lastly, there is a Level 4 now.
Either than that, the rest of the things are almost about the same with only some new design etc...
Overall to say it does look nice and beautiful after the upgrade.
Let's Go Explore
So just follow me as I explore around this place from level by level as well as the perimeter.
This would be the Directory of the CC
Level 1
Let us start off with level 1 first !
As you can see, the difference in this main hall or so called multi purpose hall is basically in the doors.
The Doors are very unlike in the past ! It is now some glass door where you can see through.
The position of the water cooler point is unchanged, The toilets of the whole CC seems to have improved by the looks of it.
The old playground at the back gate of the CC seems to have been replaced with a miniature garden.
This Tree is very old and is unchanged from last time till today !
The Television corner is also being replaced with I also don't know what is this !
There seems to be more places to park bicycles now from what it seems. But the old drink vending machine and the SAM machine seems to be gone !
The gate in this area has been changed as well
What has used to be child care area in the past has now been replaced with a small Pizza hut !
This will be how Level 2 looks like.
Overall, the design of the corridor seems to look better.
The old balcony has been slightly altered to now this which I don't know should I say better or worst.
There are now windows on level 2 in which it used be an open space in the past above the hall.
There is an extra gate near this stairs and rest are about the same.
Level 3
Level 3 does not seem to be much of big change to me from the way how I see it.
Level 4
And Finally comes to level 4 which is only just like that !
Interior Perimeter
Now follow me next along with my photos as we will explore the interior perimeter together.
This section was never transparent in the past ! Now it is. But is this room use for the same purpose as in the past, this I am not so sure.
However, the Lion Dance corner seemed to be missing which somewhere around this corner in the past.
Come to think of it, if I can remember correctly the lion dance corner used to be in this area in the past which is now what seems to be a store room.
Let's us explore further on.
Well, not much of a difference , just that there are now more plants in this internal perimeter as well as that there are quite a few washing or water points.
Exterior Perimeter
Now this is the external perimeter of the CC
From Afar
so overall this is how this CC looks like from afar
Temp Office @ Blk 214
now let's us move on to take a look at the old temporary office of the CC which is located right over here near to Blk 214
Hmn... I wonder whose bicycle does this belong to? Is it the CC staff's, the residents of Blk 214 or some Foreign Worker whose has left the bicycle unattended?
Look at this bicycle ! The Wheels are already missing !
Is the Upgrade really that necessary?
Personally in my own opinion, I don't even think there is a need to upgrade this CC at all !
What would be the purpose of the upgrade? Upgrading just for the same upgrading simply because everyone is also upgrading?
The so called upgrade is also nothing much if you were to really compare it with other areas. Other areas upgrade is really a real upgrade ! Some are even better ! They completely demolish the building and then rebuild the whole building from scratch all over again totally brand new , everything new !
Next, most likely every CC hopes to attract more new members etc.. So an upgrade will encourage more people to use the facilities.
However looking at a place like Boon Lay , this old Boon Lay ! It is not the New Boon Lay by the way, who are the majority of the people in this area?
The number one super biggest majority will be foreigners. Next would be the old and middle age people who are the Singaporeans but however taking up as the biggest group of Singaporeans in this area.
Those young Adults, Teenagers and Children who are Singaporeans are really the super minorities over here.
What good will this upgrade really be?
Who are you really attracting and who will be the ones who will ultimately use the facilities in the end? I would guess the answer should already be more than just obvious and I need not spell it out.
